Copyright and Licensing

Journal of Decision Intelligence and Analytics (DINA) supports the broad dissemination of scholarly research and aims to maximize the visibility, accessibility, and impact of published work. Authors retain copyright in their articles and grant Journal of Decision Intelligence and Analytics (DINA) the right of first publication. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License.

Under the CC BY 4.0 License, authors, readers, and other users are permitted to share and adapt published material for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source, a link to the license is provided, and any changes made to the original material are clearly indicated.

Authors and other users may:

  • read, print, and download published articles;
  • copy and redistribute published articles in any medium or format;
  • deposit and republish published articles in institutional, subject-based, or other repositories;
  • share published articles through personal, institutional, academic, or other websites and platforms;
  • translate, adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the published material;
  • use published articles for text and data mining purposes;
  • reuse portions or extracts from published articles in other works; and
  • use published articles for commercial and non-commercial purposes, provided that the terms of the CC BY 4.0 License are followed.

A digital version of a published article or a link to the published article on the Journal of Decision Intelligence and Analytics (DINA) website may be made publicly available on personal or institutional websites, preprint and postprint servers, university networks, institutional and subject-based repositories, academic networking platforms, and other appropriate platforms, in accordance with the terms of the CC BY 4.0 License.

When reusing material published in Journal of Decision Intelligence and Analytics (DINA), users must provide appropriate attribution to the original author(s), identify the original source of publication, provide a link to the applicable CC BY 4.0 License, and indicate whether changes were made. No additional permission from the journal is required for reuse that complies with the terms of the CC BY 4.0 License.

Reproducing Published Material from Other Sources

Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights to reproduce any material included in their manuscripts that originates from previously published or third-party sources, including figures, photographs, tables, schemes, illustrations, or substantial extracts of text.

Permission from the copyright holder may be required when third-party material is protected by copyright and its intended use is not permitted by the applicable license, statutory exception, or other legal provision. Authors should carefully review the copyright and licensing conditions applicable to any third-party material before including it in their manuscript.

Permission may be required for:

  • material from previously published works for which the authors do not hold the necessary rights;
  • substantial extracts from copyrighted works;
  • tables, figures, graphs, charts, schemes, illustrations, or other artwork reproduced from sources whose licensing terms do not permit such reuse; and
  • photographs or other copyrighted material for which the authors do not hold the necessary rights.

Separate permission is generally not required when:

  • the material is in the public domain;
  • the material is distributed under a license that permits the intended reuse, provided that all applicable license conditions are followed;
  • the authors hold the necessary copyright or other rights to the material; or
  • the intended use is otherwise permitted under applicable copyright law.

When adapting or reproducing material from another source, authors must provide appropriate attribution and clearly identify the original source. Where applicable, authors should also indicate whether the material has been reproduced or adapted and provide information about the license under which the original material was made available.

Obtaining Permission

Authors are responsible for obtaining any permissions required for third-party copyrighted material before submitting the final version of their manuscript. To avoid unnecessary delays in the publication process, authors are encouraged to obtain permissions as early as possible. If there is uncertainty regarding the right to reproduce particular material, authors should seek permission from the relevant copyright holder.

Journal of Decision Intelligence and Analytics (DINA) reserves the right to request evidence of permission or licensing for any third-party material included in a submitted manuscript. Material for which the necessary rights or permissions cannot be demonstrated may be required to be removed or replaced before publication.
